India Has The Second-Highest Number of ChatGPT Users : OpenAI To Invest In India

India - Second-Highest ChatGPT Users

In a strategic initiative aimed at fostering growth and innovation in the AI sector, OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, has announced plans to enhance its involvement with the developer community in India. This was revealed in a statement by Jason Kwon, Chief Strategy Officer at OpenAI, during the Economic Times Now Global Business Summit held in New Delhi.

Kwon mentioned that the company is set to organize multiple developer summits across the country throughout the year. Recognizing India’s potential as a global leader in AI, he emphasized the country’s extensive developer community and exceptional talent pool. Kwon underscored India’s track record in nurturing technological innovation and its commitment to competing on the international stage. OpenAI aims to establish partnerships with Indian developers and collaborate with product leaders to address complex challenges in AI development.

Furthermore, Kwon disclosed that India holds the second-highest number of ChatGPT users. Recent statistics indicate that ChatGPT has amassed over 180 million users worldwide, with India standing out as the second-largest market, constituting 9.08 percent of the total user base. With India making a substantial contribution to OpenAI’s market, the company is positioned to strengthen its presence in the country’s burgeoning AI ecosystem. Notably, on January 5, Srinivas Narayanan, Vice President of Engineering at OpenAI, engaged with developers in Bengaluru, marking the initiation of the company’s concerted efforts in India.

Kwon emphasized the importance of giving priority to safety in AI research and development. OpenAI is proactively investing in technologies and establishing partnerships to improve the safety of its AI tools. Simultaneously, the organization is collaborating with governments to contribute to the development of regulatory frameworks.

In a noteworthy step to navigate the dynamic AI policy landscape in India, OpenAI named Rishi Jaitly as a senior advisor last year. Jaitly, formerly the Vice President at X (formerly known as Twitter), brings his substantial executive experience to offer invaluable guidance to OpenAI as it navigates India’s regulatory environment.

Jaitly’s considerable executive background positions him well to offer invaluable guidance to OpenAI as the organization navigates the regulatory landscape in India.
